WHAT IS A NOVENA?
Novena prayers are devotional prayers, prayed for nine subsequent days, usually for a specific intention.
Novenas are an ancient tradition, shared by Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans, Lutherans, and other Christians. They follow the biblical model of the Apostles praying for nine days for the coming of the Holy Spirit (cf. Acts 1).
Listed below are novenas that I have crafted for private devotional use.
Scriptural Novena for Writers
The following novena of guided meditations was created specifically for writers and, being rooted in scripture, can be used by Christians of any denomination.
Each meditation opens with a recited prayer, invoking the Holy Spirit. Those opposed to recited prayers are welcome to replace it with spontaneous prayer.
All scripture quotations have been taken from the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition. Using a different translation of the Bible is, of course, perfectly fine.
Simple Novena to the Holy Spirit
This novena prayer is adapted from a prayer of St. Augustine of Hippo.
